Monkey Hooks – Seriously the coolest thing

I love having photos on my wall.  Love it.   The problem is I was always terrified to try and hang them.  Scared I’d make a gigantic hole in my wall and have to have the drywall repaired.   I always would have Chris hang them for me…. which he is awesome at doing, but sometimes I had to be a bit more patient that I wanted to be.  Now that I’ve found theses amazing little things I’m able to hang the photos all on my own.

This is a monkey hook.  Simple and easy.  Rather than trying to explain the finer points, I figured I send you to their website…..http://www.monkeyhook.com/ - We picked ours up at Lowes I think, but I’m pretty sure you can get them at any hardware store.  They have different weights and we even found some that will hold up to 50 pounds.  Pretty incredible.  I used one to hang this canvas in my studio.  The print is 30×30″ in size so it’s pretty heavy, and this little hook does a fabulous job!

I love anything that makes it easier for everyone to hang photos on their walls, cause really that’s where they should be!! :)

Thank You Cards

Little know fact: I love receiving cards in the mail… and I love sending them.  It’s like a little present in your mailbox.  Someone thought of you and took the time, wrote a note and put a stamp on it.  What a lovely little gesture that says so much – I care, I appreciate you, and thanks.  One year for my birthday a friend of mine (who has yet to fess up to it)  sent out an email to a bunch of my friends reminding them that my birthday was coming up in the next couple weeks and asking them to drop a card in the mail…and this is what happened… I think in total I received over 20 birthday cards that year!! Let’s just saw it was a pretty awesome birthday!

As a service to my own clients I offer photo thank you cards and Christmas cards, baby announcements … just about anything you can dream up!  I know that for couples who have recently gotten married the task of writing thank you cards seems a bit (or maybe a lot) daunting.  So many cards … so many addresses.  I encourage all of you instead to think about how happy the people who receive those cards will be.  The fact that you took the time and wrote them a note is always appreciated.   Here’s a photo of the card that Kaley & Aaron sent out to their guests this past year.

And this morning, I came across a blog entry called ‘5 Tips for Wedding Thank You Cards’ –  a great little read for brides and grooms – Thanks Emmaline Bride!.

So in short I encourage all of you too keep up the ‘art’ of sending handwritten cards… for any occasion! You can guarantee it will be the highlight of someone’s day when they find it in their mailbox!

Cynthia Weber – Interior Decorator – Bayfield, Ontario

I have had such a great time putting together my studio with Cynthia… my space isn’t quite ready for the big reveal yet… a few more details need to be in place.  I hope to be doing a virtual studio tour in the New Year so I can share it with you all.  Cynthia really has an incredible eye for detail, and an enthusiasm that is quite contagious.  I had the pleasure last week to go to her home and photograph the amazing work that she and her husband Kent have done in creating a stunning, and welcoming space for their family.  Take a look!  I absolutely love her mixture of old and new!

Had to throw in a family photo at the end too!  Great looking bunch aren’t they?!?

I can’t tell you enough how awesome it’s been working with Cynthia, and would definitely encourage anyone who is renovating or building to contact Cynthia or  find a professional decorator in your area to help you bring your home to a whole new level.  It really is worth it!

The Importance of Photos

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending a PPO seminar and listened to David Williams and Storey Wilkins speak.. both amazing photographers and presenters.  It was an awesome day of learning and I thoroughly enjoyed the day!  At the end of the seminar David shared with us a project that is dear to his heart, and it has to do with photographing families.  David has in the last few years lost both of his parents, and now all that he has of them is photographs and memories… someday that’s all any of us will leave behind…. so I challenge all of you who think you should “just take photos of the kids”, or “We’ll do family photos as soon as the baby is older”,  or “As soon as I loose a little weight” – your families love you exactly as you are, not how you want to be, and would love to preserve this time in your life when they love you…. This is one photo that I will cherish forever of my own family.  It was taken just a couple years ago by my good friend Erin Samuell.  Is it perfect, no. Do I love it, absolutely.  Everytime I look at it I’m so glad we have this moment in our families life forever captured, and I’m amazed at how grown up my kids are getting.

I’d love it if you’d take just a minute and watch this little video I found on You Tube - and then make sure you have someone… anyone take a photo of you with your loved ones.  A snapshot is totally fine, Just Do It!
