What a tiny little precious bundle this girl is!  Melt my heart.  She was just 8 days old when I stopped by for her very first photo shoot.  Here are just a handful of my favourite photos from her session.

Gilbert Family Photos

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Gilbert of the last number of years as she’s a teacher at my children’s school.  I’ve really enjoyed getting to know her and her fun sense of humour.  This past year I’ve captured their family a few times… this past summer at their favourite beach right near their home in Bayfield.

Loved this shot of the kids….

As we were finishing up the beach session they mentioned how much their were looking forward to having some Halloween photos taken… how fun is this??  The entire cast of the Wizard of Oz showed up for the shoot!

Absolutely loved this!  Inspired me to get my Halloween Costume ideas started already for next year!  Believe me I’m on it!

Shane’s Smiling Eyes

Shane might look a little familiar… It was almost exactly a year ago that I captured Shane & Jodie’s beautiful wedding at BenMiller Inn.  They had no idea that day when they made their vows that they’d live almost every single word they promised within the first year of their marriage.   Shane was diagnosed with stage 3-4 rectal cancer that had already metastasized to his liver.  I’m sure you can tell from the photos that he’s a young man, and although this type of cancer isn’t common at all for his age, the emergency doctor who first saw him had the wisdom to request further testing which was quick to diagnose his cancer, just one month after their wedding… and just two weeks after that they found out that their precious little boy Brett was on his way.   I can’t even imagine the emotional roller coaster they’ve been on this year.

Shane had a 9 hour surgery on the 28th of April and the doctors successfully removed a tumor the diameter of an orange and 6-8 inches in length plus a poker chip size spot on his liver.  They took a third of his liver out.  The pathology reports showed clean margins around the tumor…….meaning they were able to remove all of the cancer.  He had 4 more months of chemo following surgery and now is gearing up for a second surgery in January to reverse his ostomy.  I asked him about blogging his photos and a bit about his story, and the reply was a quick one… if his story helps one other person then something good will have come out of all of this.  His strength and his positive attitude absolutely amaze me!  Jodie & Shane I’m so happy for you that Brett has helped make your family complete, and I will continue to think about you as you continue on this journey!  Sending lots of prayers your way!

The Importance of Photos

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending a PPO seminar and listened to David Williams and Storey Wilkins speak.. both amazing photographers and presenters.  It was an awesome day of learning and I thoroughly enjoyed the day!  At the end of the seminar David shared with us a project that is dear to his heart, and it has to do with photographing families.  David has in the last few years lost both of his parents, and now all that he has of them is photographs and memories… someday that’s all any of us will leave behind…. so I challenge all of you who think you should “just take photos of the kids”, or “We’ll do family photos as soon as the baby is older”,  or “As soon as I loose a little weight” – your families love you exactly as you are, not how you want to be, and would love to preserve this time in your life when they love you…. This is one photo that I will cherish forever of my own family.  It was taken just a couple years ago by my good friend Erin Samuell.  Is it perfect, no. Do I love it, absolutely.  Everytime I look at it I’m so glad we have this moment in our families life forever captured, and I’m amazed at how grown up my kids are getting.

I’d love it if you’d take just a minute and watch this little video I found on You Tube - and then make sure you have someone… anyone take a photo of you with your loved ones.  A snapshot is totally fine, Just Do It!
