What A Great Weekend!

Wow!  What a fantastic weekend!  Full blog posts will follow later this week, but I had to share just a sneak peek of my pics from the weekend.  The weather couldn’t have been more fabulous and between shoots this weekend I did manage to slip to the beach with my family and also spend a very late night at the drive in… we LOVE the drive in.    Anyway, I started off Friday night with Tyler & Tara for some maternity photos.  Tara was a bit nervous about the whole thing, but check out these photos!! Such a beautiful night to photograph such a beautifiul couple!

Saturday night I took a few quick shots of my newphew Scott and his girlfriend Cassidy before they headed off to prom.  Another great looking couple!  Hope that had a fun night!

And today I got to meet the winner of my Mother’s Day Contest – Melanie.  To read about why this mom is so very special you can check out the blog post here. It was fun afternoon and a great way to end my shoots this weekend!

Look for more photos from these session this week!

Busy Little Boys!

These two little sweethearts kept me hopping!  Cameron and Travis made the trip to my studio last week for a photo session.  Travis has just turned 2 and Cameron is a month old.  So much fun to work with!  Reminds me so much of when my own boys were that age.  Busy is an understatement!  Here are a few of my favourite shots from their session.

This last shot just makes me smile! Hope it does the same for you!  Happy Holiday Monday!!

Baby Iain

Little Iain was just 5 days old when he made his visit to my studio.  He was amazingly alert during our session.  I have a feeling he may one day be as busy as his dad!  It was great to see Jeff, Caroline and Addison again too.  I was glad I grabbed this first snap shot when they came in the door as Addison really wasn’t much into the photo session.

Addison isn’t quite 19 months old yet herself, so the concept of being a big sister still hasn’t quite sunk in, but she certainly does love her baby!

Caroline is a huge fan of black and white photos…. I think she may be on to something.  Love the timelessness of these images!

Love his little expression here.  Such a tiny little guy!

My sister-in-law Loretta made me this little “nest” and I have to say I’m really in love with it.  Love the colours and the texture and the idea of  “Look what the Stork just brought!!” – too cute!

Caroline & Jeff congratulations on your beautiful family!  It is a real pleasure to Watch you All Grow!

Brad & Meredith – Engaged

I love love love engagement sessions.  They are such a great thing for both me and couple to get to know one another and have some fun taking photos.  I find it makes the wedding day run so much smoother when the bride and groom know what to expect and realize (especially for the groom) that photos can be fun.  It should never be a painful thing to get your photo taken!  Enough of of my rant…. this past weekend I had so much fun hanging out in Goderich with Brad & Meredith.  They are such a great couple.  The started dating way back in grade 10 and now that they are almost done University they are starting to plan the next stage of their life together.  Brad will be finishing up school the week before they get married next August so there is a lot of ground to cover yet, but I know that these two will get through it no problem! We met in Goderich at the Library.  Goderich has some wonderful old buildings, but the library is certainly one of my favourties.

I love how Meredith’s face lights up!  So pretty!

We also made a quick stop at one of the old train stations in town.

And then we headed down to the beach for a few shots as well.

All in all it made for a really fun afternoon!  Congrats Meredith & Brad – I can’t wait to shoot your wedding next summer!

Adventures in Whistler

This past weekend I had so much fun!  I had the opportunity to head out to Whistler to spend the weekend with Chris.  He travels quite a bit for his job – fortunately once in a while there is a perk  – which was the case this weekend.  I headed to the airport very early last Wednesday morning and enjoyed 5 beautiful days in Whistler BC.  I haven’t been to the Rockies for quite a long time and it’s been almost 20 years since I was any further west than Banff.  You really do forget how beautiful and HUGE the mountains are.  It’s one of those times when the word “amazing” or “awesome” is accurate.   We sure do have one beautiful country!  Here are a few of my snapshots from my trip……It was neat to see all the Olympic stuff.  Here is the park area where the medal ceremonies were held for the events that took place in Banff.  So cool!!

If you follow me on facebook you’ll know that I’ve taken up running again.  This was the sign that greated me at the entrance to the running trails.  Gotta say I thought twice about heading out for a run…. but I didn’t want to disappoint my coaches Martin & Sue so off I ran…. and look at the view I had on my run….. thankfully no bears were up that early in the morning.

If you know me at all, you know that making new friends is something that comes pretty easily for me.  This trip was no exception.  While I was waiting for a bus in Vancouver to take me up to Whistler I couldn’t help but notice this ladies camera bag…. it was the same as mine.  Our Jill-e bags helped us to strike up a conversation and we soon came to realize we had tons in common.  In fact both of us had a son turning 7 on May 7th!  So strange!  At any rate, Jodie who is also a wedding photographer had the next day free and with Chris busy working we decided to meet up and spend the day sightseeing around Whistler and snapping some photos.  We took a ride up the gondola as far as we could and enjoyed the sights…..Jodie’s friend Gabi – who is a local – was kind enough to play the tourist part along with us.  It was fun!!  This is a shot I took of the two of them headed back down the mountain on the lift.

We went for a big walk one evening over to Lost Lake – Chris tried very hard to get wet feet, but didn’t.  Such a funny guy.  Reminds me so much of our son Warren when he does stuff like that.  Beautiful evening for a walk!

We also found Green Lake after a little drive.  So beautiful and so quiet.  Absolutely loved this spot!

Whistler was pretty quiet while I was there but it certainly was a lovely weekend and we finished up by celebrating Mother’s Day at the Bearfoot Bistro.  If you are ever in Whister I highly recommend you give them a try.  Such a delicious meal and a wonderful way to send off for me!   Monday morning I was back on a bus and headed home.  Loved my time there and hope I can return again someday!

Mother’s Day Contest – And the Winner Is…..

Let me start off by saying this is probably one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make! All of the mother’s who were nominated were so deserving of  a prize that picking a winner was almost impossible.  I received 24 entries and I wanted atleast to mention them all in this post.  Each one of these ladies was nominated by someone who may not actually call them Mom, but has a deep love and respect for them.  The nominee’s were:  Nancy Brown, Janet Hoggarth, Christa Ducharme, Justine Greenland Duke, Colleen Smyth, Nicole Prentice, Bonnie Keller, Christine Chad, Pat Steenstra, Crystal Brennan-Yeo, Darlene, Bette Moxham, Isabelle Edwards, Gerda Burgsma, Edith Yeo, Virginia Steckle, Ruth Zeilman-Zehr, Melanie Burgers, Chris Courtney, Dianne Waun, Jennifer Ramer, Amanda Hudie, Lee Thomas, Anne Bedard, Shannon Brennan and Becky Veen.  It was such a tough decision that I called in a recruit – my wonderful Mother-In-Law, Mary Faye to try and give me a hand in the decision making.  Mary Faye helped me narrow it down to five finalists – Virginia Steckle, Dianne Waun, Christine Chad, Nancy Brown and Melanie Burgers and after reading throught them all again and again, this was the final entry that I (with the help of my husband) picked:

When I first saw the opportunity to enter this contest, I jumped at it. Not just for the shot of a prize, but to put it out there and make it known that my mother is the most beautiful person I know. She is a business owner, artist, designer, and mother to three grown girls. Her youngest daughter, Chelsea is mentally and physically disabled, needing 24 hour supervision – she can not speak or use sign language, feed herself, change or bathe herself or use the restroom herself. Basically she has the mental capacity of an 8 month old baby, though she is 19 years old. Melanie has been changing diapers and making bottles 5-6 times a day, everyday for the past 2 decades, and those are the easy things!  She has also raised two older girls (and I have to admit sometimes I am sure I am more of a struggle to deal with than Chelsea), supported them through schooling, and operates her own business!  She started her business as a hobby in order to stay home to raise the three of us while my father worked, but over the past 15 years it has developed into a very successful and very busy company.  Between taking care of Chelsea and running her business she rarely has a minute to herself to relax, or treat herself because she puts her family’s needs (and wants) and those of her friends and clients before her own. Sometimes family members (no names will be mentioned!) make note of how “tired and exhausted” she looks, and I’ve watched this deflate my mother’s spirit. It breaks my heart.  I think they just don’t realize how much she does… She is gorgeous. Inside and Out. Because both my parents work very hard, we’ve only ever had 2 family pictures taken. The most recent taken 5 years ago and before that was oooh 1993! And while we love to look back at these Sears-style pictures and laugh about the almost-buzzcuts hairstyles on all three girls, my mom’s then-cool afro , our dad’s feathered mullet, and Chelsea’s hilarious, oblivious faces, we would all enjoy looking at more current photos of our family.  I would love for my mother to be recognized for the beautiful soul and courageous women that she is.  Mostly I want my mother to know how grateful I am to have her as a mother, and for all the things she has done for us.  I want her to know that because she lives everything she believes in, I am able to do the same

Melanie Burgers – I can’t wait to meet your whole family and capture the love that you all share!  You have won a free family portrait session as well as a Portrait Purse with your families photo on it.  Thanks so much to your daughter Sayde for sharing your story!  You are an incredible woman I hope you have a fabulous Mother’s Day!

And now since no blog post would be complete without a photo on it I had to share a shot of my own five kids that I took this winter.  Bailey, Rachael, Caroline, Warren and Victor… the five of you mean more to me than I could have ever imagined and it is an honour to have you each call me “mom”.  Love you heaps!
