Step #1 – Don’t sweat the small stuff

So in keeping with the spirit of remembering what’s important this week I made a decision on Thursday, that going on Victor’s fieldtrip really was more important than all the many things I had to do in the office. ?I always try to make the best use of Victor’s days at school so that the days he is home I’m not stuck in my office all day. ?This week was a tough one. ?Wednesday when Vic was at school my day was consumed with appointments and an unexpected memorial service, so on Thursday when he was going to be gone on a school trip I was really tempted just to pass on it and stay home and accomplish something, but I figured in the grand scheme of things, am I really accomplishing what’s most important? ?Here’s a shot of Vic & I hanging out at the Children’s Museum in London…..

So my apologies to Jennifer & Mike that you’ll have to wait a few more days for your wedding gallery to be online. ? I do promise it will be worth the wait. ?This afternoon I’m off to Goderich to shoot Emily & Kevin’s engagement photos. ?I’m really looking forward to it!

One month till Christmas…….

As I was checking my facebook messages this morning a few people’s status caught my eye….. one month till Christmas. ?Instantly I get this feeling of panic and dread. ?I love Christmas, don’t get me wrong, but every year the stress just about kills me. ?I have five beautiful wonderful kids and all I want to do make sure they like what they get for Christmas….. which is easier said than done. ?There have been Christmas Eve’s where I literally lay in bed and worry. ?I was so glad when my dear friend Krista shared with me a little reality check that you can see for yourself in the video below.

So my question to myself is….. what am I going to do differently this Christmas? ?This Sunday marks the start of the Advent season and I’m going to do my absolute best during the next four weeks to spend less time infront of my computer and more time interacting with my kids and my community. ?Yes of course I’m going to buy the kids some gifts, but I’m certainly going to ask myself…. do they need it, will they use it, and WHY am I buying it…. because I want to, or because I feel I have to?? ?I know I haven’t shared a lot about my beliefs on my blog, but this video literally brought me to tears and it’s message was one I just had to share. So today I’m going to dust off my Christmas cookie cutters, pull out my card making paper and get ready to give my time to my family for the next four weeks…. and hopefully for much longer. ?Life is too short!?

Wow what a weekend…. where do I begin? ?

How about the beginning.

About a month ago when I was feeling totally burnt out and overwhelmed I had an idea. ?I knew that I wasn’t alone in my “end of wedding season” exhaustion, so I thought it would be a great idea to have a weekend get away with other female photographers. ?I blew the idea past my friend Krista and we quickly starting planning and sending invitations. ?The plan was for everyone to arrive on Friday evening and depart again on Sunday. ?I had myself plus 3 other photographers from Huron County, and Krista had herself plus 3 photographers from the Hamilton/Toronto area. ?We could have never imagined that most of the province would grind to a complete halt with a huge snowstorm on Friday afternoon. ?Needless to say Krista and her girls made it as far as London before grabbing a hotel room and calling it a night. ?My Huron County girls managed to all make it to my house and we made a white knuckle run to the cottage down by Grand Bend and hung out for the night. ?Saturday around lunch time Krista & her crew finally arrived with a killer cheesecake in tow. ?It was an amazing, amazing weekend. ?Some of us have been shooting for 5 years plus, and some for less than a year, but we all believe that everyone of us has something to share and teach each of the others. ? We shared stories, experience, advice and encouragement and of course took some killer photos of each other. ?Thanks to the ladies for letting me use their photos on my blog. You can check out their websites by clicking on their name below:

Ladies! ?Thanks so much for the fun and inspiration you gave me this weekend. ?It was really a pleasure to meet all of you and hang out! ?I appreciate and admire each one of you! ?Looking forward to a repeat event in the New Year! ?All the best!

Mike & Jennifer – Married!

You never know what to expect for weather in November.? When I arrived at Jen’s mom’s home it was snowing… not a lot, but just enough to be miserable.? By the time Jen was dressed and ready for photos we were able to snap a few outside.? By the time I arrived at beautiful Bellamere Winery – the sun was out and we had a beautiful day for a wedding.?

All that being said, Jenn & Mike really didn’t care about much of anything other than the fact that they were finally getting married…. yes I said finally….. you see they started dating when they were just kids in highschool and so this was much anticipated and they were both so glad it had arrived.? Jennifer and Mike both looked fabulous, but don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself.? You can also start their slideshow by clicking here.

My e-store is open for business….www.sandrar1giershop.com

I’m totally excited to announce the launch of my new e-store at www.sandrar1giershop.com?. ? For the past year or so I have been working in conjunction with www.pictage.com for all of my print order?fulfillments. ?One of the things that I think is key to any successful business is customer service. ?The hard part about working with Pictage was that I never actually saw the prints my clients ordered. ?That means if there were any problems or questions the clients had to deal directly with Pictage, and while I think that Pictage is a good company, I didn’t like this aspect not being in my full control. ?The other great part about my e-store is that (unlike Pictage) all of my prices are in Canadian Dollars.?

I’ve done my best to switch over all of my recent galleries, however with the number of events I’ve shot in the past season, I haven’t managed to switch them all yet. ?If your gallery is currently with Pictage and you’d like me to switch it over to my e-store, please drop me a line and I’ll get at it as soon as possible.

I’d love to hear your feedback on the new e-store. ?Check it out and drop me a line…. both Chris & Dwana and Bob & Julie’s wedding photos do not have a password, so feel free to browse around.

The Fun of Learning

On Friday I had the opportunity to second shoot (or assist) at a wedding for a collegue of mine.? John Lyons is a fabulous photographer located in Chatham, Ontario.? I had contacted him a while ago to see about second shooting for him?it turned out that on Friday he was short an assitant and I had an open day on my calendar.? It was really neat to see how he interacts with his clients and gets those great shots.? It was a cool and damp day, but the light right at sunset was absolutely incredible.? Thanks for a great day John!

Here are a few of my shots from the day.? It was a lot of fun and I definitely will be looking for someone else to second shoot for soon!?
